Our Future
"The future of our country, the direction that we go as people,
whether we move ahead to meet the challenges of the future or slide
back into the irresponsible policies of the past, will be determined
by those who get involved." --Ronald Reagan
A Time for Choosing
"If all of this seems like a great deal of trouble, think what's
at stake. We are faced with the most evil enemy mankind has known in
his long climb from the swamp to the stars. There can be no security
anywhere in the free world if there is no fiscal and economic
stability within the United States. Those who ask us to trade our
freedom for the soup kitchen of the welfare state are architects of
a policy of accommodation."—Ronald Reagan

The Republican Party - Why Believe In It?
Popular Conceptions:
- Both major political parties are alike. What’s the
difference?
- I vote for the person, not for the party!
- If I’m anything, I’m independent!
The Facts:
- Both parties are
fundamentally different! Republicans believe in freedom,
which is the exercise of personal responsibility, that people
are overwhelmingly more capable of managing their own affairs
than is the government. Democrats, on the other hand while well
meaning, mostly believe that people require the guidance of an
elite group, namely themselves as government, in managing their
daily lives. In simple terms,
Republicans trust people and Democrats don’t.
- When you vote for the person, you are really voting for the
party whether you like it or not. The person does not organize
the government. The majority party appoints its members to
positions of authority in government and therefore runs the
government. If you believe in the Republican philosophy and you
vote for an attractive Democrat, you can count on your
philosophy being ignored in the conduct of government. If you
vote for the most winnable candidate of the party that best
reflects your own philosophy, you will get a government that
more closely reflects your beliefs.
- An independent voter has a philosophy that leans either
Republican or Democrat and, to cast an influential vote, needs
to pick the winnable candidate from the major party who more
closely represents the voter’s philosophy.
Republican and Democrat Beliefs:
- Republicans believe that government should confine itself
largely to basic functions such as Foreign Policy, National
Defense, Law Enforcement, Public Works and other things that
people do not do for themselves and which need to be done
centrally. Democrats believe that peoples’ personal lives
require regulation and guidance by the government in addition to
the basic functions.
- If you feel that you can run your affairs better than the
government can, you are a natural Republican. If you feel that
you are not as good at managing your own personal affairs as the
government would be and want the government to interfere in your
life and do it for you, you are a natural Democrat and should
expect higher taxes, more regulations and less freedom and
independence as a result.
- Republicans are constantly branded by Democrats as the party
of the rich out to exploit the poor who need Democrats to defend
them against exploitation. This is baloney! Rich people are
productive people. Otherwise they wouldn’t be rich. Poor people
would not be poor if they became productive. Republicans promote
opportunity so people can become productive. Democrats promote
handouts which encourage unproductive people to stay that way.
The more productive people are, the richer and pleasanter are
their lives. Democrats exploit the productive by taxing them to
obtain the money for the handouts they give the unproductive so
they need not become productive and live happier lives.
- Republicans want government to help those who are unable to
care for themselves. For those capable of caring for themselves
but unwilling to do so, any help they receive should be to get
them to become productive members of society. There is a
difference between the unwilling and the unable which needs to
be dealt with by good government. Democrats lump the unwilling
and unable together and treat them the same. Not a good idea!
- Republicans are opposed to unfunded mandates where the
Federal and State governments require that local governments
have to find the money to pay for things they don’t need or
require. Democrats are expert at instituting unfunded mandates
and causing local governments to spend local money on things
they don’t want or need.
-
Republicans look at the individual and think
about all of the great things you can do with your own money.
Democrats look at the individual and think
about all of the great things they can do with your money.
Conclusion:
Yes, there are major differences between Republicans and
Democrats and which party you vote for is more important than
the candidate. Look at the differences between the major parties
and decide whether to be a Republican, Democrat, Independent or
some other party. There are two major parties in our country,
Republicans and Democrats, and one of them will control
government. If your vote is to count for something, in the
general election it needs to be for one party or the other. The
Republican philosophy is more representative of a free society
such as the United States than is that of the Democrats.
Remember!
REPUBLICANS TRUST PEOPLE TO TAKE CARE OF THEIR
PERSONAL LIVES AND DEMOCRATS DON’T!

I Am a Republican Because.....
-
I
BELIEVE the strength of our nation lies with the individual and
that each person’s dignity, freedom, ability and responsibility
must be honored.
-
I
BELIEVE in equal rights, equal justice and equal opportunity for
all, regardless of race, creed, sex, age or disability.
- I BELIEVE free enterprise and encouraging
individual initiative have brought this nation opportunity,
economic growth and prosperity.
- I BELIEVE government must practice fiscal
responsibility and allow individuals to keep more of the money
they earn.
- I BELIEVE the proper role of government is to
provide for the people only those critical functions that cannot
be performed by individuals or private organizations, and that
the best government is that which governs least.
- I BELIEVE the most effective, responsible and
responsive government is government closest to the people.
- I BELIEVE Americans must retain the
principles that have made us strong while developing new and
innovative ideas to meet the challenges of changing times.
- I BELIEVE Americans value and should preserve
our national strength and pride while working to extend peace,
freedom and human rights throughout the world.
- FINALLY, I believe the Republican Party is
the best vehicle for translating these ideals into positive and
successful principles of government.
These principles reflect a Republican's basic beliefs. Republicans
have held firm to these principles for nearly a century and a half.
The nation needs more Republicans today so our nation can be
stronger tomorrow. That's the best reason to be a Republican.
